    Todays IDEAS tomorrow's big companies

Why Google is been selected as best brand? what made them so successful? Microsoft was most valued brand before, now it is Google tomorrow someone else. (Ranking source- The BRANDZ) But what is common in any successful company?

Is it team work or hard work?
Is it power to take initiative or Vision? (Could not be as Yahoo search was here before Google)
Is it money which can buy the competitor?
Is it by advertising & marketing? (I never seen any TV ad’s from Google in 90’s)

Yes almost everything mentioned above will contribute. IDEA of making Operating system paid off to Microsoft as Search engine to Google.

Some one who can convert an IDEA to business becomes a successful business man. But everyone in this world is not a business man. It is very sad to see some of our successful corporate lacks IDEAS and do not entertain IDEAS from external sources. They started believing that they are bigger and reached in a stage where  need of any IDEAS from out side world irrelevent.

Some of them fear that once IDEA is taken from someone they have pay them back one day. In our day to day life we can see many people around us who share their IDEAS without expecting anything. Even that kind of IDEAS too have no place in many companies. The day any corporate start thinking that they have sufficient IDEAS they began their journey to forgotten history.

A search on Google for “"Unsolicited Idea Submission Policy” will tell you the truth. Guess who is first in the list..

I am not a saint, but I am not greedy. If some one gave 1 billion $ and ask me to do some thing which my conscience does not permit I will not do. Last 32 years money could not change me even in the difficult times or in present situations

How poor people can be .... perspective of view

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people can be.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the Father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Oh Yeah" said the son. "So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
    The son answered,
"I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
With this the boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks dad for showing me how poor we are." Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have.
What is one person's worthless object is another's prize possession.
It is all based on one's perspective.
Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for all the bounty we have, instead of worrying about wanting more.
Take joy in all you have, especially your friends.

Life is not measured by the breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.

    Perseverance

    Perseverance

An eight-year-old child heard her parents talking about her little brother. All she knew was that he was very sick and they had no money left. They were moving to a smaller house because they could not afford to stay in the present house after paying the doctor's bills. Only a very costly surgery could save him now and there was no one to loan them the money.

When she heard her daddy say to her tearful mother with whispered desperation, 'Only a miracle can save him now', the little girl went to her bedroom and pulled her piggy bank from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully.

Clutching the precious piggy bank tightly, she slipped out the back door and made her way six blocks to the local drugstore. She took a quarter from her bank and placed it on the glass counter.

"And what do you want?" asked the pharmacist.

"It's for my little brother", the girl answered back. "He's really very sick and I want to buy a miracle."

"I beg your pardon?" said the pharmacist.

"His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my daddy says only a miracle can save him. So how much does a miracle cost?"

"We don't sell miracles here, child. I'm sorry," the pharmacist said, smiling sadly at the little girl.

"Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I can try and get some more. Just tell me how much it costs."

In the shop was a well-dressed customer. He stooped down and asked the little girl, "What kind of a miracle does you brother need?"

"I don't know," she replied with her eyes welling up. "He's really sick and mommy says he needs an operation. But my daddy can't pay for it, so I have brought my savings."

"How much do you have?" asked the man.

"One dollar and eleven cents; but I can try and get some more", she answered barely audibly.

"Well, what a coincidence," smiled the man, "A dollar and eleven cents - the exact price of a miracle for little brothers."

He took her money in one hand and held her hand with the other. He said, "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need"

That well-dressed man was Dr Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long before Andrew was home again and doing well.

"That surgery", her mom whispered, "was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost."

The little girl smiled. She knew exactly how much the miracle cost ... one dollar and eleven cents ... plus the faith of a little child.
so Perseverance can make miracles happen!

    Just 4 words!

    Just 4 words!
An eight-year-old boy approached an old man in front of a wishing
well, looked up into his eyes, and asked:
"I understand you're a very wise man. I'd like to know the secret of
    life."

The old man looked down at the youngster and replied:
"I've thought a lot in my lifetime, and the secret can be summed up in
    four words

The first is to “think”. Think about the values you wish to live your life
    by.

The second is to “believe”. Believe in yourself based on the thinking
you've done about the values you're going to live your life by.

The third is to “dream”. Dream about the things that can be, based
on your belief in yourself and the values you're going to live by.

The last is to “dare”. Dare to make your dreams become reality,
based on your belief in yourself and your values. "

And with that, Walter E. Disney said to the little boy, “Think, Believe,
    Dream, and Dare”.

    The wolves within

     The wolves within
An old Grandfather, whose grandson came to him with anger at a
schoolmate who had done him an injustice, said, "Let me tell you a
story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken
so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down,
and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing
your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many
    times."

He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me; one is good
and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does
not take offence when no offence was intended. He will only fight
when it is right to do so, and in the right way."

"But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him
into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He
cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is hard to live
with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominant my
    spirit."

The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eye and asked, "Which
    one wins, Grandfather?"

The Grandfather solemnly said, "The one I feed."

    SAP Teched bangalore

Last couple of weeks I was away for SAP Teched at Bangalore. TechEd ’06 has seen record levels at all locations – with Las Vegas seeing an increased of 15% and Amsterdam an increase of 25% over the previous year - the Bangalore chapter emerged the most popular considering the whopping 40% increase in registrations over 2005

It was a nice experience which I may not forget for a while as it was my first experience as demo staff representing SAP. Even though I am from a Defense background I was really impressed with the event managed by the team at SAP bangalore. I could also able to witness some of the consistent and rock solid product from SAP. Leave me a comment or mail if you would like to see some of the snaps.

This event and the way which it presented is a good example for SAP’s integrity, sincerity and commitment towards its customers , partners and community.

    Wooden Coffin

A farmer got so old that he couldn't work the fields anymore. So he would spend the day just sitting on the porch. His son, still working the farm, would look up from time to time and see his father sitting there. "He's of no use any more," the son thought to himself, "he doesn't do anything!" One day the son got so frustrated by this, that he built a wooden coffin, dragged it over to the porch, and told his father to get in. Without saying anything, the father climbed inside. After closing the lid, the son dragged the coffin to the edge of the farm where there was a high cliff. As he approached the drop, he heard a light tapping on the lid from inside the coffin. He opened it up. Still lying there peacefully, the father looked up at his son. "I know you are going to throw me over the cliff, but before you do, may I suggest something?" "What is it?" replied the son. "Throw me over the cliff, if you like," said the father, "but save this good wooden coffin. Your children might need to use it."

Can you say Apple products are better than Microsoft Products?

If Apple is really the brains of the industry--if its products are so much better than Microsoft's or Dell's or IBM's or Hewlett-Packard's--then why is the company so damned small? (Consider that in the last 10 years alone, Apple has been issued 1,300 patents, almost one-and-a- half times as many as Dell and half as many as Microsoft--which earns 145 times as much money.). Apple have only 2% of market share on 180% billion PC market over the world.

Conventional wisdom has long answered that Apple is the victim of a single, huge strategic error: the decision in the 1970s not to license its operating system. But that was long ago and far away.

“TRUTH IS, SOME OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE INSTITUTIONS IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICAN BUSINESS HAVE BEEN COLOSSAL FAILURES.”

It is not the number of patent, it is the number of patent can actually convert into value addition to products that matter. As Microsoft say “People ready” business where your staff are more important than your product. Apple never considered common man. They were in a fool’s paradise. Ipod is succeeded only because there was no competitor for them, If they can have the consistent groth by end of 2008 they survive or else they decline to 2% in ipod market too.

Problem with apple is that it is growing on a big tree which is not accessible to common man, in fact you may need a ladder which cost more than apple to pluck the apple.

     Not All Innovation Is Equal
Technical innovation will earn you lots of adoring fans (think Apple). Business-model innovation will earn you lots of money (think Dell).

    1. Innovate for Cash, Not Cachet
If your cool new thing doesn't generate enough money to cover costs and make a profit, it isn't innovation. It's art.
    2. Don't Hoard Your Goodies
Getting to market on time and at the right price is vital. If that means licensing your idea to an outside manufacturer or marketer, do it.
    3. Innovation Doesn't Generate Growth. Management Does
If you covet awards for creativity, go to Hollywood. Managers get rewarded for results, which come from customers.
    4. Attention Deficit Has No Place Here
Every innovation worth doing deserves your commitment. Don't leap from one new thing to another. If your creation doesn't appear important to you, it won't be important to anyone else.

Microsoft has officially confirmed rumors that they will come out with a digital music player, the Zune

Why Coke is not selling Pepsi or vice versa

EU slaps $ 357 million fine on Microsoft – This is one of the rare news which make me crazy. “I have no alternative but to levy penalty payments for continued compliance” said EU competition commissioner. When operating system to office is made by a company, why Microsoft is prevented to bundle Media player which comes free.

Did you forget the days you paid for a browser? Microsoft is the one who made it free. There may be business intention, but who doesn’t have? Can you imagine this kind of growth if there is no Microsoft operating system?

Microsoft is the only software company who empowered the common man made this world accessible to everyone, can anyone deny this. People never realize that in a world where there is no Gates and Windows it will be complete wall which can be accessed only by few people who have the power to jump or fly across.

Have you ever tried to install an operating system from competitor of Microsoft? They talk about security, reliability, availability etc, but no one speak about usability user friendliness. Yes I partially agree with them but without installation how I use it. Every time I have to search for an expert to install it. Don’t ask me about hardware installation. I saw the hell.

Why Pepsi is not forced to sell coke. Pizza hut does not have domino’s pizza. Does it happening in EU. Then why do they insist Microsoft to unbundle their own product from their operating system? May be I am too small to understand this logic.

    You gotta love Kids!

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an
urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employees
home phone number and was greeted with a child's whispered, "Hello?"

Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a youngster
the boss asked," Is your Daddy home?"

"Yes", whispered the small voice. "May I talk with him?" the man asked.
To the surprise of the boss, the small voice whispered, "No."

Wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked," Is your Mommy there?"

"Yes", came the answer. "May I talk with her?" Again
    the small voice whispered, "no".

Knowing that it was not likely that a young child would be left home
alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message with the person
who should be there watching over the child. "Is there anyone there
besides you?" the boss asked the child.

"Yes" whispered the child, "A policeman". Wondering what a cop would be
doing at his employee's home, the boss asked "May I speak with the
    policeman"?

"No, he's busy", whispered the child." Busy doing
what?, asked the boss. "Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman",
    came the whispered answer.

Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a
helicopter through the ear piece on the phone the boss asked, "What is
    that noise?"

A hello-copper", answered the whispering voice. "What is going on
there?", asked the boss, now alarmed.

In an awed whispering voice the child answered, "The search team just
    landed the hello-copper"

Alarmed, concerned and more than just a little frustrated the boss
    asked, "Why are they there"?

Still whispering, the young voice replied along with a muffled giggle:

    "They're looking for me"

    Google Check out

Google Inc. on Thursday will launch a long-awaited service called Google Checkout, which some analysts said could help online merchants boost sales and convince them to commit more advertising money to the Web search leader.

Analysts were mixed on whether the product, initially available only in the United States, puts eBay Inc.'s PayPal online payment system in Google's competitive sights.

The new offering, referred to in news and analyst reports as GBuy or Google Wallet, promises online sellers an easy way to add a checkout to their sites and can be used in addition to other options such as PayPal or a merchant's own pay system.

Google said Checkout stores names, shipping and credit card information and eliminates the need for consumers to resubmit that data with each purchase. Google is responsible for processing the credit card payments and keeping data safe.

"We think we're making e-commerce a lot more efficient and easier to use," Salar Kamangar, Google's vice president of product management, told Reuters. Google checkout

How Too Many Long Hours Can Be Bad for Your Career

Approximately 2,500 years ago, Confucius told his students: "To go too far is as bad as to fall short." Excessive work, he said, is as undesirable as laziness. As simple as this advice may sound, most of us still fail to grasp it, thinking that the only downsides of overwork are fatigue and burnout. In reality, the side effects can be much more serious. Especially for managers, hard work can become toxic at extreme doses and "poison" a career.

First, working excessively long hours can mask weaknesses. These may surface too late, when problems are no longer easily fixed. Consider the manager who routinely does the work of her assistant because she failed to recruit the right person and train him properly. Her superiors may not notice the problem if she's willing to work hard enough. The individual may not even grasp the extent of her problem, as she will probably be busy praising herself for working harder than anyone else.

Consequently, this executive who needs urgent training in human management, instead, can be put in charge of a five-person team. This is when all hell breaks loose. Hard work can't make up for the inefficiencies she creates for five employees. After all, there are only so many hours in a day.

If this manager weren't willing to work insane hours, the problem would have been exposed earlier and addressed before her promotion. In the end, she would go much further in her career. If, however, the problem surfaces as a result of a failure, the manager will have not only a long-term weakness to address but also a fiasco to explain.

Another problem with working long hours is that such a lifestyle is extremely difficult to sustain. An analogy is a company that relies exclusively on price cuts to gain market share. Charging $1 for a product that costs 98 cents to manufacture is not a sensible strategy, because it leaves no room for error. The first labor strike or product recall can easily drive the corporation into bankruptcy.

     ..........

    .........

You  might ask: "How do I know if I am working too hard?" Here are three ways to tell:

    1. Compare your hours to your peers'. Keep an eye on how much time they're spending in the office and try to achieve similar or better results with fewer than average hours. If your hours are above average and your performance isn't, you're probably compensating for some kind of shortcoming.

    2. Listen to how people define your strengths. Adjectives such as "hardworking," "dedicated," or "committed" shouldn't show up among your top three qualities. These are copied easily and can't differentiate you as you advance in your career. If you have doubts, pick up a copy of a business publication and read a profile of any top manager. You rarely will find those qualities among their strengths. The list may include "visionary," "bold," "good communicator" and other descriptors, but probably not "hard worker."

    3. Finally, ask yourself how much harder you could be working if you really wanted to. If the answer is, "Not much harder," you're in trouble. Should your boss present you with an excellent opportunity and ask you to try harder in return, you'll likely fail to rise to the challenge. You are already trying as hard as possible and can't do any better.

Google - Free mobile service Provider

TELECOMS companies in Britain are preparing to face a challenge from Google, the internet search engine, which is planning a move into mobile communications.

The US firm is to launch a free wireless internet access service in its home town of Mountain View, California, later this month.

Despite assurances from Google that it has no current plans "to expand this community service beyond the Bay Area [San Francisco]", industry analysts believe the search giant is preparing to use the growing popularity of wi-fi to enter the mobile communications market outside the US.

It intends to take on a new role in becoming an internet service provider using a patchwork of wi-fi hotspots to provide high-speed internet access in public areas.

The company also has plans to partner wireless internet service provider EarthLink to offer a similar free internet access service across San Francisco.

Adam Walkden, a consultant at analyst firm Visiongain, said: "We believe they are considering offering the service - possibly by partnering other internet service providers, outside the US.

The San Francisco rollout will be a testbed.

"Google's successful advertising-based business model allows the company to offer services for free.

"If it can convert this business model to include local based advertising to wi-fi users, it poses a significant threat to mobile operators."

Google's head of special initiatives, Chris Sacca, last week told the American media that its network could be a vehicle for delivering advertising.

    The Precious Gift

    The Precious Gift
Once upon a time, when God had finished making the world, he wanted to leave behind a piece of His own divinity, a spark of His essence, a promise to man of what he could become, with effort. He looked for a place to hide this precious gift because, He explained, what man could find too easily would never be valued by him.

"Then you must hide this gift on the highest mountain peak on earth," said one of his counselors.

God shook His head, "No, for man is an adventuresome creature and he will soon enough learn to climb the highest mountain peaks."

"Hide it then, O Great One, in the depths of the earth."

"I think not," said God. "for man will one day discover that he can dig into the deepest parts of the earth."

"In the middle of the ocean then, Master?"

God shook His head. "I've given man a brain, you see, and one day he'll learn to build ships and cross the mightiest oceans."

"Where then, Master?" cried His counselors.

God smiled, "I'll hide it where every man and woman will be able to find it if they look sincerely and deeply enough. I'll hide it in their heart."

Google gets ready to launch online spreadsheets

Search giant Google is preparing to launch an online spreadsheet which will put it into competition with the Microsoft's Excel product.

So far only a beta version of the spreadsheet has been released to an 'invitation-only' audience.

The spreadsheet will be free to download, but will require a constant internet connection in order to function. Features include the ability to import and export data from Microsoft Excel, as well as open access and editing for a number of different users.
But commentators were less convinced about its value as a business application, or its threat to Microsoft's dominance in the spreadsheet market.

"If I was an enterprise, I would go nowhere near this," Guernsey Research Analyst Chris Le Tocq told San Francisco Chronicle.

He said that if the Internet crashes the company has no access to its data.

"If I was a small-business person, I would also be extremely wary... The only people who should consider this would be people on a tight budget -- a student, or nonprofit or an educational institution."

In a report released by RBC Capital Markets, and quoted on Forbes.com, analyst Robert Breza said that he didn't see Google Spreadsheet as a credible replacement for Excel, going on to say that it was "very unlikely" for any enterprise to run their core spreadsheet requirements on a web-based offering:

"We believe it is more likely to spur Microsoft in developing a similar offering."
